One question that gets asked often is how to answer the strengths and weaknesses question in an interview. A few months ago, a jobseeker from Richmond Hill, Ontario, wrote: “I have recently been to over 5 interviews in the past few weeks. During the duration of each interview the interviewer asks me what my biggest weakness is. I find it extremely difficult to answer this question knowing that it will somehow work to my disadvantage no matter what I say. In October, the unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent, the highest rate since April 1983, and nonfarm payroll employment declined by 190,000. Since the start of the recession, payroll employment has fallen by 7.3 million. Job losses have averaged 188,000 over the past 3 months. The declines are much smaller and less widespread than they were last fall and winter. Nevertheless, some industries are still experiencing notable employment declines. In October, construction lost 62,000 jobs, manufacturing 61,000, and retail trade 40,000. One of the few industries where employment continued to grow during the recession has been health care, which added 29,000 jobs in October. Employment in temporary help services rose by 34,000 over the month, the first significant increase in that industry since the start of the recession in December 2007. Among those outside the labor force -- that is, persons neither working nor looking for work -- the number of discouraged workers in October was 808,000, up from 484,000 a year earlier. These individuals are not currently looking for work because they believe no jobs are available for them.

WASHINGTON – The economic die is cast, and it's grim news for Democrats. There's nothing now that Congress or President Barack Obama can do to before the November elections to jolt the nation's listless recovery. Friday's unemployment report — the last major economic news before the midterms — showed the nation continued to lose jobs last month, reinforcing the bleak reality that it probably will be not months but years before the jobless rate returns to pre-recession levels below 6 percent. With nearly 15 million Americans still without work, that tightens the pressure on Democrats ahead of the Nov. 2 elections. And it also casts a dark shadow well into the 2012 election season and beyond. "We won't see under 6 percent for five years," David Wyss, chief economist at Standard & Poor's in New York, said Friday after the Labor Department reported that 95,000 more jobs were lost in September and the unemployment rate held at 9.6 percent. "It's going to be a slow recovery."

There are those among us who have the energy, know how, and money to give jobs to Americans again. But instead, you all have made this coming Thanks Giving the best you ever had. The politicians are laughing it up big time. They have their jobs for another 2 - 6 years. America still need jobs. Lets help our elected officials not forget we need jobs. Spend 15 minutes a week telling them how they can help you or how they can do something for the community. They rung your phone for months, reminding you to vote. They need to get to know you. Start local, and stretch your muscles as far as you have officials. Whether you voted for the official in the seat or not, they represent you. Introduce yourself. Write a letter; email your official, make a phone call. Let them know what the needs are. A job; money to take a physical for a job; something improved in your community; safety issues? Tell them what things they can do. This country will get better when we all participate in change.

Advocates say a federal memo that surfaced this week proves that states have the authority to regulate or reroute the controversial oil sands pipeline in Nebraska. The March employment report shows that private sector payrolls increased by 230,000 in March, marking 13 consecutive months of private employment growth. Private sector employers added 1.8 million jobs over that period, including more than half a million jobs in the last three months. The unemployment rate fell for the fourth straight month to 8.8 percent. A Libyan government spokesman has termed the conditions set by the opposition for a ceasefire "mad", and asserted that troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, will remain stationed where they are.
